On Sept. 18, Jenny posted her thoughts on the one-year anniversary of her diagnosis.

A few days later my boss asked if Jenny would mind if The Oklahoman re-published the blog post in The Oklahoman in October during breast cancer awareness month.

Jenny was happy to oblige. The result was this story and these pages on Oct. 1:

Four weeks later, Jenny appeared live on NewsOK on one or our Google+ Hangouts. She was on with two other women and The Oklahoman’s health reporter Jaclyn Cosgrove.

I’d post the video, but we did not get the full hangout posted on NewsOK after the live event. Technical issues, you know. But I watched it — she was great, as usual.

Jenny’s been growing hair like crazy. She had made the transition from looking like a woman who had chemo treatment to looking like a woman who just has short hair.

To cap off the end of Jenny’s chemo and radiation treatments, Jenny’s friends — Debbie, Krisan, Lorrie and Kyla — threw a party for her to celebrate. It was a great celebration with family and friends.

And even though Jenny is embarrassed to have another celebration for her, it turned out to be a great opportunity for her to spend time with her friends, family and co-workers without much actual discussion about cancer.

Now it’s the day after the party. Jenny has read all the message her friends have written in the book Krisan had available for everyone at this a party and at her post-chemo brunch celebration.

We feel very blessed.

Personally, I believe Jenny’s experience has been the epitome of how to have proper support in times of trial. We’ve been blessed in every possible scenario of support …

• Old friends
• New friends
• Pastors
• Faith
• Church small group and close friends
• Church members we never even knew
• Extended family
• Employers
• Neighbors
• Teachers
• Doctors
• Nurses
• Complete strangers
• Insurance … yes, we even feel blessed by our insurance coverage

Jenny and I can provide real examples of how these sources of support have blessed us — in a wide variety of ways. I can’t think of anyone else we could possibly get support from.

We’ve honestly had so many examples of human kindness and support from so many different angles. So many gifts, words, deeds and general acts of kindness.

It really feels like the way we’re supposed to treat each other.

That feels good. And the only way we can actually re-pay the debts is to pay it forward to others in need. That’s our goal.

So — after the party where Jenny’s friends again selflessly donated their time, resources and efforts to celebrate her — it seems like the right time to simply say …
