Here we are – two years from the date our whole world shifted.

The good news – life is feeling more and more normal every day.

I’ve made it through some of the roughest times in my life — physically, mentally and emotionally. I’m still standing.

The fear of recurrence that seemed so gripping on me fades away more and more every day. I think it will always be there, but it is getting easier not to automatically think its back with every ache or pain.

Like everyone else, the release of iOS 8 forced me to clear off some space on my phone. I have pictures that have been sitting on there for two years because I have this little piece of me that wasn’t ready to delete them. Here are a few that take you along the journey of the last two years:

In the midst of fighting the infection, we were in a wreck on the way to the airport in Houston.

One week after my first chemo treatment. Oddly, I felt really good this day. That was the last day I could say that for the rest of treatment!

the hotel after my big surgery this year – I had SIX surgical drains coming out of my body. It was, by far, the hardest surgery.

Found a lump and had a scare after my February surgery. Quick trip to Houston to find out it was nothing of concern.

Six weeks after my last surgery, life has begun to return to normal.

I think that what was keeping me from deleting the pictures is that all of the pictures of bad memories (infections, surgical drains, PICC lines, chemo, etc.) are all juxtaposed with 10 to 15 times as many happy pics (chemo parties, flowers sent, huge signs on my company’s building). I mean, I don’t know if you realize this, but I kept a screenshot of every post that every person made on my wall and every email I received regarding surgeries, chemo, etc. throughout the last two years. Some day, I’ll use these pics to make a book documenting the whole journey, and the best part of the book will be that I had each and every one of you cheering me on. Seriously. Every last one of them means the world to me.

I can’t find words that are impactful enough to express the gratitude that I have for all of you so I’ll just have to settle for thank you. Happy second cancerversary. Thanks for getting our family to this point.
